Just a little Random Post
It has been awhile since I just wrote something for the sake of writing. Sometimes I find myself thinking about something and then I think…”hmm…I should blog about that.” Amid all of my stalker-like blog hopping I find myself thinking, “gee, all these people have such fun lives…what do I do all day?” Is that true for anyone else? Perhaps my life seems like a total party…trips to Oregon and Utah, the zoo, kite flying, bocce ball (which is a great game by the way…) etc. But that isn’t a very accurate portrayal of my life…though it’s definitely good, it isn’t a party ALL the time, only most of the time…kidding.
A quick question for all the moms…when is this “everything in the mouth” phase over with and did your kids choke on everything?! Preston is doing the usual exploring with his mouth thing but he keeps getting weird little nasties stuck in the back of his throat and then he’s gagging and can’t breathe…and it FREAKS me out. I feel like I am watching him all the time but apparently I’m not!! I go into lifeguard mode and sweep his mouth and then tip I’m and give him the back blows, then he throws up all over the place…I have no idea what I’m doing but he is still alive so something must be working. Has this been a habit in any other household?

The mouth is how babies explore their world and, brace yourself, it lasts for a very long time! You do have to be very alert and watch him like a hawk. Some things can be very damaging…..such as if he swallows something sharp and it goes through his system. It is more than a full-time job to try to monitor what goes in.

I feel the exact same way! I think since people only blog about the fun and happy stuff everyone’s lives just seem so perfect. I sometimes find myself wishing I had more fun stuff to blog so that people would actually read my blog! :)
Ava is only 4 months old and I’m already worried about her choking. It’s scary being a mom.

Jackson still likes to put foreign objects in his mouth. Tabitha choked on a penny last year – ended up swallowing it – and guess what i got to do for the next week? Cut her poop up into little pieces to make sure the penny wasn’t lodged somewhere. So yeah – picture me – holding my breath and butchering floating poops in the toilet with a plastic knife and fork. You may ask me now, “Did you find the penny?” Well of course not!!!! So we went to have x-rays. “Was the penny on the x-rays?” Well of course not!!!! It escaped through the one bowel movement that I forgot to dissect! All that poop chopping for nothing! Ain’t motherhood grand?!!

When Samm was about 2 she asked if she could have some monneys to hold. So, being the smart Mom that I am I gave her five pennies to play with. Of course she put them in her mouth and choked and we had to take a little trip to the hospital. Fortunately she never stopped breathing, they were just stuck in her throat. By the next morning they had gone down to her stomach and about a week later out they came. Very scary! I know this won’t make you feel any better, but she’s five now and I still catch her putting weird things in her mouth. Good luck!
